Use case

Code review

TL;DR

Agents write code fast; reviewing it is the slow part. Pane keeps each agent and its changes in the same pane: open the Changes panel, read each file's diff as a tab next to the agent, and send a follow-up without switching windows. When it looks right, commit and push with a shortcut each.

A common critique of agent managers is that “you're just converting typing time into reading time.” That's fair for tools that make review harder. Pane's aim is to make review fast enough that the time savings hold.

Pane's approach

The agent and its diff live in the same pane, so the review loop never leaves the window.

Shorten the loop. Ctrl+Shift+B opens the side panel with Changes, and each file's diff opens as a tab beside the agent. Iterate or commit from the same window, with no hopping between terminal, browser and git client.

Iterate without losing context. Spot a problem, switch to the agent's tab, describe it, and switch back. The diff has already updated, because the agent and the review live in the same place.

Walkthrough

Notification, diff, follow-up, re-check, commit, push.

  1. 1The agent finishes a change in its pane. You get a desktop notification when it's done or needs input.
  2. 2Press Ctrl+Shift+B for the side panel and open Changes. Click a file to open its diff as a tab, split or unified.
  3. 3Read file by file. Arrow keys and Enter move through the list.
  4. 4Found a regression, an unwanted refactor or a missed edge case? Switch to the agent's tab (Ctrl+A and Ctrl+D move between tabs) and tell it.
  5. 5Switch back. The diff refreshes on its own; re-check the files that changed.
  6. 6Commit with Ctrl+Shift+K, then push with Ctrl+Shift+U.
Committed, ready to pushOne shortcut commits. The header shows where the branch stands; push and merge are one click each.Pane 2.4.155, right after the commit shortcut

Compared with your editor

Your editor's diff is great; the switching is the cost.

VS Code's source control diff is excellent, but the agent usually runs in a terminal somewhere else. You review in the editor, go back to the terminal to ask for a fix, then return to the editor. In Pane the agent and the diff are tabs in the same pane, so the loop is diff, feedback, diff. You can still open any pane's folder in your editor with one click when you want to.

What to watch for

Scope creep, missing tests and tired context.

  • → Scope creep. Agents often refactor nearby code that wasn't part of the task. Look for files you didn't expect in the Changes list, and ask the agent to revert them for a clean pull request.
  • → Missing tests. A feature without matching test changes is a flag. Check every feature pane for test files.
  • → Tired context. On long runs, quality can drop as the context fills. If the diff looks sloppier than usual, start a new pane for the rest of the work.
