Agent Teams AI alternatives
TL;DR
Agent Teams AI (agentteams.live, once called Claude Agent Teams UI) is a free, AGPL-3.0 app for Windows, macOS and Linux. You build a team of agents with roles. They split a goal into tasks, message each other and review each other's work while you watch a kanban board. You can mix Claude Code, Codex, OpenCode and other providers, or start on a free built-in model with no signup.
You see the team through chat, task logs and the board, not each agent's terminal. Worktrees are opt-in per teammate, and users have reported an out-of-memory crash with a five-member team and a recent slowdown. Pane gives every agent its real terminal and its own worktree, and its orchestrator can still split a goal across them.
the alternatives
Each of these shows you the agent's real terminal and keeps tasks in separate worktrees. Chip colors: green runs natively, amber has a catch, red doesn't run.
1.Pane
Best for a real terminal and worktree for every task, plus an orchestrator when you want one.
Every pane runs the agent's own CLI in a terminal you can type into, on a branch of its own. Sessions, Pane's orchestrator, starts agents in other panes and steers them toward one goal. Free, AGPL-3.0, no account.
WindowsWSLmacOSLinux
Best for a board of agents that still shows each one's terminal.
Like Agent Teams AI, it tracks agents on a Kanban, and a project-aware orchestrator can plan and hand out work. Each task gets its own worktree, and you watch the agent's real terminal or a chat view. Failing CI goes back to the agent automatically. Apache-2.0. No WSL repos.

3.Emdash
Best for worktrees by default for about 35 agent CLIs.
Every task gets its own worktree unless you opt out, and the agent's real CLI runs in a terminal tab. Tasks can start from 12 issue trackers. It leaves coordination to you: agents don't hand work to each other. Apache-2.0. No WSL mode.

4.Orca
Best for Claude Code's own agent teams, one terminal per teammate.
Every agent runs in a real terminal in its own worktree. If you like teams, Orca can launch Claude Code's agent teams feature with a pane per teammate (off by default). MIT, with SSH hosts and phone apps. About 1 GB installed in our Windows test.

which one should you pick?
stay with agent teams ai if
- → you want to hand a goal to a team and watch a board
- → you like agents messaging and reviewing each other without you
- → you want to try multi-agent work on a free model with no signup
pick pane if
- → you want to see and type into each agent's own terminal
- → you want every task in its own worktree without choosing it each time
- → you'd rather steer agents yourself and call in an orchestrator only when it helps

why people look for an agent teams ai alternative
Agents hide behind the app, worktrees are opt-in, and big teams get heavy.
Teammates run under the app's own process manager, with a tmux mode (a terminal multiplexer) kept for debugging. So you follow Claude Code or Codex through the app's chat and logs, not their own screens. Worktree isolation is a choice you make per teammate at launch; skip it and they share your checkout. Big teams strain it. A Windows 11 out-of-memory crash with five members drew 30 comments before closing in July. An open November report says a 2.18.4 session "slows to a crawl".
moving from agent teams ai to pane
Each teammate becomes a pane, and the team lead's job goes to Sessions.
Each teammate becomes a pane (one task: its own terminal, worktree and branch), so isolation is on from the start. The team lead's job goes to Sessions, which can have one agent plan, others build and another review. Per-hunk review becomes the Changes panel, where you commit, push and merge. Claude Code, Codex and OpenCode, the CLIs Agent Teams AI detects, are one-click presets. Pane ships no model of its own, so you bring your agent plans.
our verdict
Agent Teams AI is an ambitious free way to let a team of agents run itself. If you'd rather watch and type into each agent, with a worktree every time, pick Pane. Agent Orchestrator keeps a board with real terminals, Emdash makes worktrees the default across many agents, and Orca can run Claude Code's own teams in panes.
how we checked
Desk research on November 5, 2026. We read Agent Teams AI's README and FAQ, release assets and issue tracker. Its docs site returned an error (503). We didn't install it.
Agent Orchestrator, Emdash and Orca facts come from our October 3 and 4, 2026 research. Orca's install size is from our hands-on test of its Windows build in October 2026.
