Termio alternatives

TL;DR

Termio (termio.sh) is a free, MIT terminal for macOS, built for running Claude Code, Codex and other CLI agents side by side. It's written in Swift on libghostty, Ghostty's terminal engine. It hooks into each agent to show whether it's working, idle or waiting for you, and a background process keeps sessions running after you quit.

People look elsewhere for three reasons. It's Mac only, with Windows, web and Android on its roadmap. Its diff pane is read-only, so "commit, push, and PR stay in the terminal". And one developer wrote nearly all of it, and the README asks for long-term maintainers.

Pane is the pick if you want the same real-terminal approach on Windows, WSL or a Linux desktop, with commit, push and merge built into the app.

the alternatives

All four run on Windows and Linux and let you review agent changes in the app. Chips: Windows, WSL, macOS, Linux.

  1. 1.Pane

Best for Termio's real terminals, plus a Changes panel, on every OS.

Each pane is an agent's own terminal on its own worktree and branch. Review the diff, then commit, push and merge from the Changes panel. Remote Pane covers the Linux box you'd SSH into. Free, AGPL-3.0, no account.

  2. 2.Orca

Best for terminals, diffs, SSH and a phone app on Windows and Linux.

Like Termio it reaches Linux boxes over SSH, but it also installs on Windows and Linux, with commit and PR tools in the app, and Android as well as iOS apps. MIT. Expect about 1 GB on disk.

  3. 3.Emdash

Best for tickets in, reviewed diffs out, on Windows, Mac and Linux.

Starts tasks from Linear, Jira, GitHub and nine other trackers, and you review each diff in the app before merging. Apache-2.0. No WSL mode.

    WindowsWSLmacOSLinux

  4. 4.Agent Orchestrator

Best for review that loops back to the agent automatically.

Apache-2.0 desktop app where failing CI and review comments return to the agent that wrote the code. No WSL repo support.

which one should you pick?

stay with termio if

  • → you're on a Mac and want a native, Ghostty-based terminal built around agents
  • → you want sessions that keep running after you quit the app
  • → you run agents on a Linux VPS and want local and remote sessions in one window
  • → you want no telemetry at all

pick pane if

  • → you work on Windows, inside WSL or on a Linux desktop
  • → you want to commit, push and merge without leaving the app
  • → you want a built-in orchestrator chat that starts and steers other agents

Termio facts checked on November 5, 2026 (v0.71.0), from its docs, README and releases.

why people look for a termio alternative

Mac only, review in the terminal, and one main developer.

Termio runs on macOS 14 and up, on Apple Silicon or Intel. Linux works only as a remote host over SSH. The diff pane is read-only by design, so you commit and open PRs from the terminal.

It ships fast, with three releases on November 2 alone, and some bugs are open. File drag-and-drop into the terminal broke in 0.68 and 0.69. One user couldn't start a session on a remote machine from the app. Agent status can be "silently wrong" when an agent's hooks aren't trusted. One developer wrote 2,593 of its commits.

moving from termio to pane

Each Termio session becomes a pane, and the read-only diff becomes the Changes panel.

A Termio session maps to a pane, and a sidebar worktree maps to the pane's own worktree and branch. The read-only diff pane becomes the Changes panel, where you also commit, push and merge. Agents that aren't presets in Pane, such as Pi, Amp or Crush, run as custom commands. A remote Linux box maps to Remote Pane.

Termio's iPhone beta maps to Pane's iPhone app, in early access on TestFlight, or its browser app at runpane.com/app.

our verdict

Termio is a native Mac terminal built around agents, free and MIT with no account or telemetry. Off the Mac, or if you want to commit from the app, Pane fits. Orca adds SSH and phone apps, Emdash pulls work from issue trackers, and Agent Orchestrator automates the review loop.

how we checked

Everything about Termio comes from reading, on November 5, 2026: its site and FAQ, its docs, the README, the release list and open bugs. We didn't run it.

Orca, Emdash and Agent Orchestrator were researched in early October 2026, when we also ran Orca's Windows build against a WSL repo.
