Verdent alternatives
TL;DR
Verdent, from Verdent AI, Inc. (verdent.ai), is a closed-source coding agent. Its desktop Manager breaks a goal into subtasks and gives each one an agent in its own git worktree, tracked on a Kanban board. Since v2.18.0 (October 29, 2026) it's paid only, priced in credits, and it still has no Linux app. If you already pay for Claude Code or Codex, Pane runs them side by side for free, each in its own worktree. Agent Orchestrator and Kandev keep a board, and Emdash starts tasks from your issue tracker.
the alternatives
Every tool here runs several coding agents at once. The chips show where each one runs: green is native, amber has a catch, red is no.
1.Pane
Best for running the agents you already pay for, with no credits.
Pane runs Claude Code, Codex or any CLI agent in its own terminal and worktree, with diffs, commit, push and merge built in. It's free, AGPL-3.0 and needs no account, on Windows, WSL, macOS and Linux.
WindowsWSLmacOSLinux
Best for a live board of agents, closest to Verdent's Manager view.
Each card is an agent in its own worktree, and failing CI or review comments go back to that agent on their own. Apache-2.0; it doesn't handle repos inside WSL.

3.Kandev
Best for splitting work into stages you approve.
A self-hosted AGPL-3.0 board where a card goes from plan to build to review to PR, with a different agent at each step.

4.Emdash
Best for work that starts as a ticket.
Emdash turns issues from 12 trackers into tasks for about 35 agents, locally or over SSH. Apache-2.0, no WSL mode.

which one should you pick?
stay with Verdent if
- → you want one product that plans, builds, hosts and publishes an app from plain-language goals
- → Verdent's own agent and models suit you, and you like its Manager splitting the work
- → you'd rather work inside VS Code or JetBrains
pick pane if
- → you already pay for Claude Code, Codex or another CLI and don't want to buy credits as well
- → you want something free and open source that doesn't need an account
- → you code on Linux or in repos inside WSL

why people look for a Verdent alternative
It's paid only now, priced in credits, closed, and Mac and Windows only.
Verdent's v2.18.0 changelog (October 29, 2026) retired the free mode, the free trial and the 100 welcome credits. Its pricing FAQ still mentions a trial, but the changelog is newer. Plans run from $5 to $179 a month on credits, and top-ups start at $20 for 340. All 10 reviews on its unclaimed Trustpilot page give one star, mostly about cost, token use and billing support.
Verdent's own agent is the default. Its docs describe Bring Your Own Agent for Manager subtasks, with Claude Code and Codex as the two options. There's no Linux app, and you need an account.
moving from Verdent to pane
Each Manager subtask becomes a pane, opened by you or by the orchestrator.
If you used Bring Your Own Agent, your signed-in codex CLI works in Pane as is, and Claude Code runs as the official CLI under your own login instead of through an adapter. Verdent's Manager split the goal for you. In Pane you either open a pane per subtask or ask the orchestrator chat to split the goal and start an agent for each part. Each pane is a worktree on its own branch, and you review and merge it from the Changes panel, much like Verdent's Task Changes panel.
our verdict
Verdent makes sense if you want one paid product that plans, builds and hosts an app with its own agent. If you'd rather run the CLIs you already pay for, free and on any OS, Pane is the most direct alternative. Agent Orchestrator and Kandev suit board-first workflows, and Emdash suits issue-first ones.
how we checked
We didn't install Verdent, and it's closed source with no public repo. On November 5, 2026 we read its site, docs, pricing, download page, changelog and Trustpilot reviews. Facts about the other tools come from their own docs, releases and issue trackers, researched on October 3, 2026 and rechecked on October 4.
