dashboards for monitoring claude code agents

TL;DR

An agent dashboard shows one row per session: which agents are working, which are waiting for you, which are done. That's visibility. It tells you an agent has waited four minutes, but not every dashboard takes you to it or shows you what it changed.

Watchers like recon and claude-tmux sit on top of sessions you started yourself. Agent-aware terminals like Herdr and cmux mark the pane that needs you. Agent managers like Pane show the same status and also run the agents, with a worktree and diff for each.

Pick a watcher if your workflow already works and you only lose track. Pick a manager if you want to act on what you see.

What a dashboard shows

One row per session: state, branch, and the last thing it did.

agent status, live
  • add-authworking · editing src/auth.ts
  • fix-navneeds input · 4m
  • refactor-apiworking · running tests
  • docs-updatedone · PR opened
  • perf-cacheidle · exited 1
A dashboard tells you fix-nav has waited four minutes. Whether it takes you there is the difference between tools.

Visibility vs control

Seeing that an agent is stuck is half the job. The other half is getting there, answering it and reviewing its work.

A dashboard tells you fix-nav has been waiting for four minutes. A pure dashboard stops there. It doesn't open that session, send the agent what it's waiting for, or show you the diff so you can decide whether to ship it.

People who get the most from dashboards pair them with a workflow they already like for starting and reviewing agents. People who get burned treat the dashboard as the whole solution, and end up watching agents stall instead of moving them along.

Watchers and agent-aware terminals

These read the state of sessions you started yourself. Most are built around Claude Code and tmux.

recon shows working, idle and waiting sessions in a table, or as pixel-art creatures. claude-tmux puts the same lights in a tmux popup. Herdr's sidebar shows which agent is working, stuck or done, and cmux draws a blue ring around the pane waiting for you.

Managers with status built in

These show the same state and also run the agent, so you can act on it in the same place.

Pane marks each agent as blocked, working, done or idle, rolls that up to its pane and project, and sends a desktop notification with sound when one finishes or needs input. Agent Orchestrator and Kandev show agents as cards on a board. Vibe Kanban did the same, but the company behind it shut down in April 2026.

Short descriptions come from each project's own page; we haven't rated them.

  • Lazyagent · A terminal UI, desktop app for macOS and Linux, and HTTP API for monitoring sessions from 9 agents, including Claude Code, Cursor and Codex.
  • 49agents · An open source, self-hostable infinite canvas for every agent, terminal, repo and machine you use.
  • agent-view · A light tmux session manager with live status and notifications when an agent finishes or needs input.
  • tcmux · A viewer for terminal and coding-agent sessions running in tmux.

When a dashboard is the right answer

Use one when visibility is the only thing missing.

  • → Your start-and-review loop already works. You only lose track of who's waiting.
  • → Long background tasks. You only need to know when one needs you.
  • → Several people, one view. A team wants to see what's running without switching context.

If you keep switching sessions to fix things, see a stuck agent but can't see its diff, or don't have a worktree per agent yet, you need more than a dashboard. Start with the desktop agent managers or tmux agent managers.
