Agents · Oh My Pi

oh my pi with parallel worktrees on windows, mac, linux

TL;DR

Oh My Pi (omp) is an open source, batteries-included fork of the Pi coding agent, with language-server edits, a real debugger, its own sub-agents and 60+ model providers, shipped as a single binary that runs natively on Windows. Pane gives each omp session its own git worktree and real terminal, so you can run several on separate tasks, see which is working or waiting, and review each one's changes before merging. Claude Code, Codex or plain Pi can sit in the next pane on the same repo. For one task at a time, one omp in one terminal is enough.

omp already runs its own sub-agents inside a session. Pane works one level up: separate omp sessions for separate tasks, each on its own branch.

What is Oh My Pi?

Oh My Pi is a free, MIT-licensed terminal coding agent from Stencil Labs, built on Pi and extended with IDE-grade tools: language-server renames and diagnostics on every write, a debugger it can drive, a hashline edit format that helps weaker models edit reliably, sub-agents that can each get an isolated copy of the repo, and a built-in git review. It works with Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, Copilot, local models and many more, by subscription or API key.

It ships as one binary for macOS, Linux and Windows (x64 and ARM64), installed with a one-line script, Homebrew, Bun, Nix or mise. It has about 38,000 GitHub stars and releases several times a week.

Quickstart

Install Oh My Pi, create a pane, open a terminal, type omp.

  1. 1Install Oh My Pi

    macOS, Linux or WSL

    curl -fsSL https://omp.sh/install | sh

    Windows (PowerShell)

    irm https://omp.sh/install.ps1 | iex

Then start it in your repo; the first run walks you through providers and a default model

    omp
  2. 2Create a pane

Press Ctrl+N (⌘N on a Mac), pick the repo and branch, and create it. Pane makes a worktree for the pane.
  3. 3Start Oh My Pi

Open a terminal in the pane with Ctrl+Alt+1 (⌘⌥1 on a Mac), or pick Terminal from the Ctrl+T menu, and type omp. To launch it with one keystroke next time, save it as a custom command; your first four custom commands get shortcuts.

What works with Oh My Pi in Pane

Everything Pane does around the terminal works. Agent-specific extras are for its three built-in agents.

✓omp's TUI in a Pane terminalPane's terminals are real terminals, so omp's interface, palette and keys work as in any shell.
✓Native Windows or WSLRun the Windows binary in a Windows repo, or the Linux binary in a repo inside WSL, where Pane opens the terminal in the distro.
✓omp's own sub-agentsomp's sub-agents keep working inside a pane; Pane gives each whole session its own worktree on top.
✓Its own worktree and branchEach pane is a separate git worktree, so several sessions never touch each other's files.
✓Diff view and git actionsSee what changed, commit, push, rebase and open a pull request from the pane.
✓Ports and env per paneEach pane gets its own port block in PANE_PORT, and .env files are copied into new worktrees.
~Status in the sidebarPane shows terminal activity. Detailed working, waiting and done states are tuned for Claude Code, Codex and Cursor.
~Resume after restartLayout and terminal output come back. Add a custom resume template if the agent can resume a conversation by ID.
✕Usage and cost trackingPane tracks usage for Claude Code and Codex only.

Several omp sessions, one branch each

A pane per task keeps each session's changes on its own branch.

omp is fast to start a big task in, and with several tasks going it helps to keep each one separate. Create a pane per task: each gets its own worktree and branch, with your .env files copied in, so sessions never edit the same files. The sidebar shows which pane is working, done or waiting on you.

omp next to Pi, Claude Code or Codex

Compare agents on the same task, each in its own worktree.

omp and Pi share a lineage but differ a lot in philosophy: omp includes almost everything, Pi includes almost nothing. Running both, or omp next to Claude Code or Codex, on the same prompt from the same base branch is an easy way to see which suits a task. Each pane's Changes panel shows its diff, and you merge the one you like.

When one omp session is enough

If you work on one task at a time and one terminal is comfortable, you don't need Pane; omp's own sub-agents and git review cover a lot. Pane helps once you run several sessions at once or mix omp with other agents.
