ai agent manager tools

TL;DR

Tools for running coding agents fall into six groups: desktop agent managers, tmux agent managers, terminal multiplexers, worktree tools, agent dashboards and orchestration systems.

Pick by the problem you have: an app around your agents, agent control inside tmux, shell layout, faster worktrees, seeing who's waiting, or software that splits work for you.

We researched 30 tools in October 2026 and installed every one with a Windows or Linux build. They're all in the table below, and each category page compares its group in detail.

“Many agents” is green when a tool runs any CLI agent or 30 or more of them, and amber when it supports a fixed shorter list. Worktree per task, diff review and the rest are judged from the hands-on runs where we could install the tool, and from its docs where we couldn't.
