desktop apps for managing claude code and codex

TL;DR

Desktop agent managers are apps for running several coding agents at once. They come in three styles: worktree managers that give each agent its own branch and a diff to review, chat-style windows over the agents you already have, and broader workspaces that add canvases, browsers or dev servers.

We looked at 17 of them in October 2026 and installed every one with a Windows or Linux build. The first filter is your operating system: Conductor, Superset, Agentastic and super.engineering are Mac-only or Mac-first. The second is how you review work: only some show a real diff and commit from the app.

Pane is a worktree manager for Windows, macOS and Linux that runs any CLI agent and needs no account.

Worktree managers

These give every agent its own branch and folder, then show you a diff to accept or throw away. This is the core of the category.

Conductor made this workflow popular on the Mac, and it's still the most polished chat-style take on it, but it needs an account and runs only four agents. Superset packs in the most features and also needs an account. Orca and Emdash are the closest open source, cross-platform options, and Orca adds a built-in browser and a phone app.

Chat-style windows

These put a chat UI over agents you've already installed. They're quick to start, but review and commit are lighter.

T3 Code and Paseo both have phone apps, which is their strongest point. In our test Paseo's Changes panel opened on an empty view, and committing sits in a git actions menu rather than a button by the diff. Waku is the lightest, a native window with a rewind that undoes both the code and the conversation.

Workspaces and canvases

These do more around the agents and less about reviewing their code. Several skip worktrees altogether.

Maestri lays agents out on a whiteboard and lets you wire them to each other. Solo runs your dev servers beside the agents; its docs now mention linked worktree projects, though worktrees aren't its focus. Silo keeps every project's terminals alive while you switch. Reliant runs its own agent through workflows you write in YAML.

We haven't tested these hands-on yet. Each one was checked as active in October 2026.

Short descriptions come from each project's own page; we haven't rated them.

  • Nimbalyst · Crystal's successor from the same team: a visual workspace for Claude Code, Codex and OpenCode, MIT-licensed.
  • Harnss · An open source desktop client for Claude Code, Codex and other agents that speak the Agent Client Protocol.
  • Codirigent · A Rust terminal workspace for running several agent CLIs side by side, with Windows support.
  • ClaudeTerminal · A tabbed terminal manager for Claude Code sessions with worktree integration; last updated April 2026.

How to choose

Filter by operating system, then by agents, then by how you review.

  • → Does it run on every machine you use? See the platform guides for Windows, Mac and Linux.
  • → Does it run the agents you use? Some run any CLI; others support a fixed list.
  • → Does each task get its own worktree? Without one, parallel agents collide.
  • → Can you review and commit in the app? A real diff view saves the most time.
  • → Does it need an account? Conductor, Superset and HumanLayer do.

A common mistake

Treating every desktop app as the same thing. A chat window over Claude Code, a whiteboard of terminals and a worktree manager with a diff view all get called agent managers, and they suit very different days. Decide how you want to review an agent's work first, then pick the style that fits.
